Frequently asked questions
What is a lab-grown diamond?
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond, grown in a laboratory instead of forming in the earth. It has the same carbon crystal structure and the same optical, physical and chemical properties as a mined diamond.
Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab-grown diamond is diamond: the same carbon crystal structure and the same optical, physical and chemical properties as a mined diamond. Simulants such as moissanite and cubic zirconia are different materials that only look like diamond.
What is the difference between CVD and HPHT?
Both are methods that grow real diamond. HPHT grows diamond at high pressure and high temperature, and CVD grows diamond layer by layer from a carbon gas at near-vacuum pressure.
Can you tell a lab-grown diamond from a mined diamond by eye?
No. By eye the two can be indistinguishable. A gemological laboratory separates them with advanced instrumentation, and the origin is stated on the grading report and laser-inscribed on the girdle.
How are lab-grown diamonds graded?
IGI grades lab-grown diamonds on the full 4Cs scales. Since 1 October 2025, GIA assesses colorless lab-grown diamonds with the descriptive categories "Premium" and "Standard" instead of D-to-Z grades.
How do you verify a grading report?
Read the report number, confirm the girdle inscription, then check the number on the lab's own verification portal. A genuine report and stone will match on weight, measurements and inscription.
What is the difference between a lab-grown diamond, moissanite and cubic zirconia?
Lab-grown diamond is diamond. Moissanite and cubic zirconia are different materials that only look like diamond, and they differ measurably in hardness, brilliance and weight.
How does buying loose lab-grown diamonds work for the trade?
You define a specification, verify each stone's report, agree terms, and inspect on arrival. Quotes are given against specific stones with report numbers, not from a generic price list.
Do Elmonas stones come with a grading report?
Every Elmonas stone ships with an IGI or GIA report, and the report number is shown with the stone so you can verify it with the lab before you buy.
How do I get a price?
Prices are on request. Quotes are given on WhatsApp against specific stones, each identified by its report number, and a written quote states its terms.
