SIDE STONE FINDER · ELMONAS DIAMONDS
Side Stone Finder
For a trilogy, side stones are usually about 60% of the centre stone's width, so a 2 ct round centre of 8.1 mm takes a matched pair of about 4.9 mm; for a halo, a ring of about 1.55 mm stones follows the outline.

The proportion rules behind the result
These are standard planning proportions, not fixed Elmonas limits. A designer can change any of them and the quotation will state the final stones.
Trilogy
Two matched side stones. Same-shape sides are about 60% of the centre stone's length and width. Round sides are about 60% of its width. Tapered baguettes are about 60% of the centre length and 40% of its width.
Halo
One ring of round stones that follows the centre outline, 0.35 mm out from the stone. Stone diameter is about 19% of the centre width, kept between 1 and 2 mm. The count fills the ring path with 0.08 mm between stones.
Hidden halo
Round stones set under the centre stone. Diameter is about 14% of the centre width, between 1 and 1.6 mm, in a ring at 92% of the centre outline.
Pavé band
Round stones on the shoulders covering 50% of the band. Diameter is about 18% of the centre width, between 1.1 and 1.8 mm. The band is assumed to be 63 mm around the outside, which is ring size US 6 (UK L 1/2).
Tennis
A single row of equal round stones around the full band, worn with the centre stone. Diameter is about 30% of the centre width, between 1.8 and 3 mm.
Weights
Round stone: average diameter squared x depth x 0.0061, with depth at 61.5% of the diameter. Fancy shapes: length x width x depth x a shape factor (oval 0.0062, pear 0.0060, marquise 0.0058, cushion 0.00815, princess and asscher 0.0083, heart 0.0059, emerald 0.0090 and radiant 0.0086 at their usual ratios). These are the published jeweller's weight estimation factors. Centre sizes from a carat weight use the usual length to width ratio for the shape.
Questions about side stones
- What size side stones suit a 2 carat oval in a trilogy?
- A 2 ct oval measures about 9.9 x 7.3 mm. Using the 60% rule, oval side stones come out near 5.9 x 4.4 mm each, about 0.43 ct per stone and 0.87 ct for the pair. Round side stones of about 4.4 mm are the alternative. The exact pair is confirmed in your quotation.
- How are the side stone sizes worked out?
- Each setting style has a stated rule. In a trilogy the side stones are about 60% of the centre stone's width. In halo, hidden halo, pavé band and tennis settings the stone diameter is a set share of the centre width, within a stated range, and the count fills the space available. The rules are printed on this page.
- How is the carat weight of each side stone estimated?
- With the standard published weight estimation formulas used by jewellers and appraisers: for a round, average diameter squared x depth x 0.0061, and for fancy shapes length x width x depth x a shape factor. Real stones vary with cut and girdle, so weights are estimates until the stones are selected.
- Is the stone count exact?
- No. The count is a planning figure from the outline of the centre stone and the stone size. Prong layout, setting design and ring size change it by a few stones. The final count, size and weight are confirmed in your quotation.
- Does the finder show a price?
- Price is shown as On request. Send the spec on WhatsApp and the quotation states the price for your stones, metal and setting.
- How long does it take to make side stones?
- Cut-to-order diamonds take about 1 week. A full jewellery piece takes about 2 weeks. There is no minimum order, down to a single stone, and availability is confirmed in your quotation.
- Are the side stones certified?
- IGI or GIA certified; grades, fluorescence and cut stated per stone. Certification for small side stones is confirmed for each order in your quotation.
Matched pairs and layouts for trade are on the side stones hub.
