How the chart is worked out

FormulaAverage diameter squared x depth x 0.0061, the published estimation formula for round brilliants

AccuracyAn estimate for planning. Actual weights vary with cut and are confirmed in your quotation
Sieve numbersSieve sizes differ between suppliers, so quote the mm size

Using the chart

Pick the diameter in mm from your design, read the weight per stone, then multiply by the stone count to get the carat weight of a parcel. For stones in a halo, a pave band or a tennis line, the Side Stone Finder works out the size and count from the centre stone for you.

Melee is not a fixed standard. Order by mm size and quantity, not by a sieve number, and state the tolerance you need in your enquiry.

Questions

How many 2 mm diamonds make a carat?
About 33, based on the standard round brilliant estimation formula. Real counts vary with cut.
What does a 1.5 mm round diamond weigh?
About 0.013 ct per stone.
Is melee sold by mm or by sieve size?
We quote by mm size, because sieve numbering differs between suppliers.
How are the chart weights calculated?
With the published round brilliant estimation formula: average diameter squared x depth x 0.0061. The Side Stone Finder page shows the same rules.
Is there a minimum order for melee?
No. One stone is a valid order.
